
Maria Rigau
Postdoctoral Researcher
Maria holds a degree in Human Biology from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona (2012) and a Master's in Biomedicine from Universitat de Barcelona (2013). After some wet lab experience in the fields of genetics and tissue engineering, she switched to Bioinformatics when she started her PhD at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre in (Madrid) and the Barcelona Supercomputing centre (Alfonso Valencia Lab, 2014-2019). She then moved to London for a postdoctoral position at the Laboratory of Medical Sciences (Vaquerizas Lab, 2020-2024), where she studied determinants of 3D genome organization and the relationship with gene regulation in different developmental processes. At the IJC, she studies the role of non-coding mutations in B cell Acute Lymphoblastoid Leukemia initiation and relapse.
Beyond her research, Maria is passionate about bioethics and enjoys outreach activities aimed at engaging the public with science.
