Nicolás Byrne

PhD Student

Nicolás was born in Crewe (United Kingdom), and moved to Spain where he pursued a degree in Biotechnology (2018-2022) at the University of Oviedo (Spain). Here he had his first research experience at the Cancer and Epigenetics group at the ISPA. Wanting to learn more about computational biology, he moved to Barcelona to pursue his Master’s degree in Bioinformatics (2022-2024) where he had the chance to join the Protein Design and Modelling group at the IBMB for a short research stay supported by a JAE Intro fellowship. For his Master’s thesis, Nicolás joined the Javierre Lab (2023-currently) and after a year at the Lab he decided to stay to pursue his doctoral studies.

There is one thing Nicolás does better than anyone: cook authentic asturian cachopos for everyone at the lab. He also enjoys exercising under the rain since it reminds him of home and he’s also a big cat lover.
